Happy Diwali to You - Day 2

November 11, 2015

Diwali, the Festival of Lights. You could tell when I landed at the airport that it is that time of year. Homes and businesses are all strewn with lights, just as you might find at Christmas. Thankfully, here in India, the lights go up only for a week or two and you don't see it for three months in the shops like you do in the US, at least that's what I was told.

Tara specializes in the special. For years she's been bringing her tours to her friend's home for an authentic Diwali celebration. We are welcomed warmly, we offer our gifts, we participate in both the religious ceremony to greet the new year and bring it in with a bang. Fireworks all through the city exceed our annual valley wide Fourth of July celebrations in the Vegas neighborhoods.

And afterwards, an amazing home cooked meal. The hostess cooked for over a dozen people and every bite was delicious!  Three cheers also to the driver and his assistant who navigated this rather large vehicle down a very narrow street. We can see now why an assistant is required.
