Jaipur - Day 6

November 15, 2015

We crammed into a jeep to take us down the mountain from the fort.  It was not crammed like the Indians manage to do. There was plenty of room left on laps, the back and the top, we probably could have doubled the number of people.

We went to see a step well. They are relatively rare. It is an incredible hole in the ground. Nothing like I've seen so far. There is a horrible traffic jam on the road alongside it so we parked a ways away and walked there. I'm sure we finished and were well on our way before we would have gotten through that jam.

This is a cool water palace. They built it on land, then dammed up a river to make the surrounding lake. A cool getaway. We picked up a young magician there who did a little show for us on the bus. I recorded it, I'm thinking Will can use it for a training video for Chloe.

After lunch, we headed to Jantar Mantar, and incredible observatory built many years ago and which is still accurate today in telling time, observing the motion of the stars and blowing away the minds of the masses. (Well, I was certainly impressed anyway.)This and the fort both had huge crowds of Indian tourists.

Our next stop we went to Tara's 'brother' who owns a fabric store. And boy was that an experience. We started out with an empty surface and bam! by the end of our buying session it was covered a foot deep with scarves, shirts and all sorts of other clothes. We were probably there for an hour and a half while they kept pulling out new possibilities. I also got my first and probably last motorbike ride through the streets to the nearest acceptable ladies restroom about an hour into the process. It was a little nerve wracking but it was fun, I can see why guys like their bikes.

Our last stop after we unpacked I our new rooms, because Tara did her thing and got us all 'upgraded' to the old wing of our hotel, was dinner at a new hotel. It was essentially a site visit at the Grand Uniara Heritage Hotel and she was being woo'd by management. Boy do they want her business. The hotel still needed some work, construction is wrapping up, but it actually was quite nice and the very good dinner for all of us was on the house. I do  have to mention this radioactive mock tail they brought out to us. Not that great and scary looking. Thankfully the rest of the meal was top notch.
